The Big Appeal Bushfire Cricket Bash 2020 gained a lot of traction from the cricket universe as the legends of the yesteryear returned to the cricket field to entertain their fans albeit with a noble idea. Ponting XI faced off against Gilchrist XI to raise funds for the victims of Australian bushfire and they were successful in raising nearly 8 million dollars.
The legends battled against each other in a 10-overs a side match which is popularly known as T10 match. Ponting XI batted first and courtesy of some fine batting performances from the skipper and West Indian maestro Brian Lara, they scored a total of 104 runs in their 10 overs.
Chasing a target of 105 runs, Adam Gilchrist began the innings with a bang as he slammed Brett Lee for a six. The innings earned a lot of momentum as Gilchrist and his opening partner Shane Watson dismantled the opposition bowlers. With the likes of Yuvraj Singh and Andrew Symonds present in the dugout, it seemed like the Gilchrist XI would easily win the match.
Unfortunately, though Lee’s comeback over got the better of both Singh and Symonds as Gilchrist XI lost their momentum midway. They took the game to the final over where despite their best efforts, they lost the match by 1 run. In the middle of both the innings, there was a special over where Australian women’s players, Ellyse Perry and Sutherland bowled to Indian batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar.
Talking about the incident involving Ponting and Walsh now, the West Indian legend bowled an unbelievable moon ball to the former Aussie captain and he had to go out of his way straight towards the fielder at third man to hit the ball.
Thanks to Gilchrist’s smartness, Ponting could not send the ball out of the pavilion legally but he fulfilled his wish after the umpires declared the ball dead.
