The T20I series between South Africa and England is underway currently with the first T20I match ending yesterday late night.
Although there was an awkward match time for the Indian fans, the quality of cricket produced by the two teams would not have hurt the Indian fans who decided to stay awake for the game.
However, the ones who missed this missed a real gem of a match as South Africa and England brought their ‘A’ game to the table. Dale Steyn and Lungi Ngidi were the two biggest stars of this match which went down to the wire.
About the Match
The home side batted first and posted a score of 177 runs on the board thanks to some fantastic batting performances from the trio of Rassie van der Dussen, Quinton de Kock and Temba Bavuma. Chris Jordan was the best bowler for England with figures of 2/28 in his 3 over spell.
Chasing a target of 178 runs, England got off to a flier courtesy of Jason Roy’s heroics. The right-handed opening batsman raced to his half century in no time.
It seemed like he, along with another half-centurion, Eoin Morgan would take the English team over the line with utmost ease but that did not happen. The game went into the final over with South Africa requiring 7 runs off it.
Skipper Quinton de Kock who is not much experienced as a captain decided to give the 20th over of the match to Lungi Ngidi.
He had earlier dismissed Ben Stokes in the innings so, he was in fine touch. Ngidi bowled some brilliant deliveries to send Moeen Ali and Tom Curran back to the pavilion.
On the last ball, England needed 3 runs and Dale Steyn produced his masterclass with an underarm throw to help South Africa win.
