There is a famous saying in the cricket world which goes as follows, “Cricket is a gentleman’s game.” The Spirit of Cricket is the biggest thing in cricket but, there have been several occasions where this spirit was missing in the game.
During IPL 2019, Ravichandran Ashwin had mankaded Jos Buttler at the non-striker’s end when he was taking his guard while in the final match of World Cup 2019, England’s Ben Stokes did not ask the umpires to change their decision and took 5 runs overthrow despite guiding the ball to the boundary line with his bat.
However, this spirit is still alive in the hearts of a lot of cricketers, including Sri Lankan fast bowler, Isuru Udana. The Sri Lankan fast bowler’s gesture in the Mzansi Super League has won the hearts of the fans and the video has gone viral on the internet.
During a recent match of Mzansi Super League 2019, Nelson Mandela Bay Giants’ batsman Heino Kuhn hit a straight shot.
Unfortunately, the ball hit the non-striker batsman Marco Marais. It was a crucial moment in the match as the Giants needed 24 runs off 8 balls. Marais was laying down on the ground out of his crease.
And, instead of trying to dislodge the bails at his end, the Paarl Rocks bowler Isuru Udana chose not to run the batsman out.
Eventually, karma favored the Rocks as Udana and co. won the match by 12 runs. The Rocks have now gained the top spot on the points table while Nelson Mandela Bay Giants have slipped to number two position.
