Yesterday was the 37th anniversary of India’s 1983 World Cup victory. On this special occasion, there was a wave of congratulations to the players of Team India. Meanwhile, when former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh congratulated the victory and Team India’s coach Ravi Shastri took his old revenge.
Congratulating the 1983 World Cup team, Yuvraj Singh wrote,
“A moment of national pride, our seniors lifted the 1983 Cricket World Cup on this day Congratulations to every member of the 1983 team You set the benchmark for us to achieve the same in 2011! Looking forward to India becoming a world champion in all sports”
On this tweet by Yuvraj, Shastri wrote “Thanks, Junior! You can tag me and Kaps also-@therealkapildev”.
Yuvraj immediately responded by saying, “Hahahahaha senior! Your a legend on and off the field Kapil Paaji was a different league altogether”
Shastri had asked to tag Kapil Dev and himself in this tweet because when Shastri congratulated recently on the winning anniversary of Team India’s 2011 World Cup, then Yuvraj asked to tag Mahi and himself.
While congratulating Shastri on winning the World Cup 2011, he wrote, “Many Congratulations Guys! Something you will cherish all your life. Just like we from the 1983 group #WorldCup2011 – @sachin_rt @imVkohli”
Shastri tagged Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli in his tweet. After this, Yuvraj had said “Thanks senior ! U can tag me and mahi also we were also part of it”
In the final match of the 1983 World Cup, the Indian team, batting first, set a target of 184 runs in front of the Windies, on the basis of Srikanth’s 38 runs. Everyone felt that the West Indies team would easily achieve this goal and put a hat-trick to win the World Cup, but they say that cricket is a game of uncertainties, anything can happen here anytime.
Something similar happened in the same match. The Windies team, full of batting batsmen like Vivian Richards, was piled on that day for just 140 runs. In this match, Madan Lal and Mohinder Amarnath took the maximum three wickets each, while Sandhu got two and Kapil Dev and Roger Binny got one wicket each. This victory helped India gain a distinct identity in world cricket.
