Former West Indies fast bowler Michael Holding feels West Indies team will miss Darren Bravo and Shimron Hetmyer on England tour for 3 Test matches series but their decision should be respected.
The first time international cricket is going to be played after the Worldwide lockdown due to the coronavirus epidemic. England will host West Indies for a three-match test series starting from 8th July. England Cricket Board has already announced the schedule of this series. After this West Indies cricket board announced the squad for this tour.
Darren Bravo and Shimron Hetmeyer decided not to go to England due to the threat of the COVID-19 epidemic. Apart from these two players, Chemo Paul has also refused to go to the UK for the Test series starting on 8 July. Former
Holding on his Youtube Channel said,
“I think it’s unfortunate as far as West Indies cricket is concerned. I’m not going to tell anyone that they should be going to England because COVID-19 is around, someone may get sick or even worse.
He also added, “But at the same time I think it’s unfortunate for the West Indies team because these guys have quite a bit of talent, and they’ll be missed,”
Holding also added that England series would have been a good chance for Bravo to revive his career because he was ruled out of the Afghanistan Test in November. He says,
“I’m sorry that Bravo, in particular, isn’t going because Bravo, I think, needs to resuscitate his career. He started off so brilliantly, everybody thought he was going to be another great West Indian batsman”
He added, “He hasn’t really fulfilled that. I think the more cricket he can play now, especially for the West Indies, the better chance he has of getting back on track and showing everyone the great player that he could be.”
After that Michael Holding also talked about Hetmyer. He says,
“Hetmyer, again, I think he’s a very, very talented player. I think people have heard me talk about him in the past. Again, I’m sorry that he’s not going so that he can get more opportunities to express himself. But I ain’t blaming them for not going.”
