The Indian women’s cricket team has made a distinct identity in world cricket by performing brilliantly in the last few years. In the last 3 years, the Indian women’s team performed well, making it to the finals of the ICC tournament 2 times. However, they could not win the title.
Meanwhile, many Indian women players made their presence in foreign leagues including players like Harmanpreet Kaur, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Smriti Mandhana. In such a situation, when the Indian women’s team has established new dimensions in cricket in the last few years, many people are advising for women’s IPL like male players to make women’s cricket more popular in India. Not only this, but the Women IPL can also be a great platform for women to find talent.
While talking on BBC podcast, the opener of Indian women team Smriti Mandhana tells that the female Indian Premier League can make a massive difference in finding young talent to the team will help you to perform well in international competitions. She also appreciated BCCI’s efforts in this direction. She said,
“The BCCI has put in a lot of effort, first we had an exhibition match kind of women’s IPL two years ago then there was a very successful IPL with three teams. And this year it was supposed to be four teams”
“I’m sure a lot of IPL style matches will take place for a year or two. A five or six-team IPL for women will be great for Indian women’s cricket especi ally for the World Cups,”

She also hoped that the difference between domestic and international cricket in women’s cricket in the country will soon be over. She said,
“Women’s cricket in Indian is growing massively, especially the domestic circuit. But there’s still a lot of gap between competition between international and domestic circuit which I think will be bridged in 2-3 years.”
