The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has nominated Rohit Sharma for the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award 2020.
With Rohit Sharma, Indian fast bowler Ishant Sharma and opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan and 22-year-old Deepti Sharma have been nominated for the Arjuna Award.

The Ministry of Sports has sought an e-mail nomination for the National Sports Awards this year due to the lockdown due to the Covid-19 epidemic. In this case, the scanned copy of the applications is directly sent to the Sports Ministry through e-mail.
In the statement, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly said that before selecting these names, we looked at a lot of data and discussed many parameters. Rohit has set many benchmarks as a batsman and has achieved what many players could not. We think he deserves the Khel Ratna.
For this year’s Arjuna and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna awards performances from January 2016 to December 2019 will be considered. Currently, Sachin Tendulkar (1998), MS Dhoni (2008) and Virat Kohli (2018) have won the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award.
Rohit Sharma is currently the vice-captain in Team India’s limited over format. Rohit set a world record 5 centuries in the World Cup played in England last year. He is the only batsman to score 4 centuries in T20I.

On the other hand, Shikhar Dhawan, who is nominated for the Arjuna Award, holds the record for the fastest century in a debut test. He is the only batsman in the world to score the highest number of runs in ICC Champions Trophy twice in a row.
Shikhar Dhawan is also the fastest Indian batsman to complete 2000 and 3000 runs in ODI. He is also the fastest Indian to score 4000 and 5000 runs in ODI cricket.
