There is always a hot debate on the topic that who is the better batsman between Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar. However, Rohit Sharma’s meteoric rise in the batting department has compelled the cricket universe to include the Hitman in their debate also.
Recently, in the ICC World Cup 2019, Rohit broke many records with his unbelievable consistency that powered the Indian team to the top of the points table. Even though the Men in Blue could not win the cup, Sharma won the hearts of the fans with his hard-hitting batting display.
It was Mahendra Singh Dhoni who saved Rohit Sharma’s career by giving him an opportunity to open the innings in the ICC Champions Trophy 2013. Now, he is one of the best batsmen in the world because of that promotion.
His numbers have been so extraordinary that the famous commentator, Simon Doull said he is a better opening batsman than Sachin Tendulkar. During his appearance on ICC’s show ‘Inside Out,’ the cricket expert stated:
“His ability to increase his strike-rate past that, even it’s past 60, 70, 80… You don’t see Rohit Sharma getting stuck in the ’90s very often and laboring through the ’90s either. He is just a phenomenal player.”
He then compared the numbers of both the openers and came to the conclusion that:
“Numbers-wise, Rohit’s numbers are phenomenal, they are better than Sachin’s, that’s why to me he’s the first name on the list, and that’s only because you start at No.1, there’s Kohli on the list, Dhoni’s on the list as you get further down the order.”
