Ireland Cricket has named Paul Stirling as the vice-captain of the team. Cricket Ireland made this announcement on Friday. Paul Sterling, who made his international debut in 2008, has played 117 ODIs and 78 T20 matches for Ireland.
He has all played all three Tests for Ireland so far. Ireland cricket team captain Andrew Balbirnie over Stirling being named vice-captain says he always consulted him during the match.
“I didn’t really hesitate when I was thinking about who could be my vice-captain – he stuck out to me straight away.
“He’s someone that I’ve always sought advice from when thinking about my batting, so to have him as my right-hand man over the next few years is really exciting and one I’m sure he’s excited for as well,” Andrew added.

Sterling on becoming vice-captain also expressed happiness over this, saying,
“He’s had an excellent start to his captaincy with wins in the Caribbean and the sub-continent, but there is so much on your plate as captain – especially with a younger team than we’ve had in the past – so I am happy just to be a sounding board to bounce ideas off and help implement any changes in the way Bal wants to take this team forward on and off the field,”
Significantly, Paul Stirling holds a great record in T20 International cricket. He is the highest run-scorer in a calendar year. Paul scored 748 runs on the board in 20 T20I matches in 2019 with an impressive average of 41.55. Apart from Sterling, only 2 batsmen have managed to score more than 700 runs in a calendar year in T20I.
