Former Australian captain Michael Clarke has expressed his gratitude on social media after being appointed as an Officer in Order of Australia. Michael Clarke received this award for his outstanding contribution to Australian cricket.
Clarke wrote in his Instagram post,
I’m not sure how to express the gratitude and honour I have today, for receiving such a prestigious award. As surprised as I was to be seen in such light, and alongside some of my heroes, it makes me very proud to say that cricket has given me so much more than I could ever have imagined, and this is another example of why I owe the game so much.
Apart from this he also mentioned his family in this post. He says,
“Without the support of my family, friends, fans and teammates, I wouldn’t be where I am today. This recognition and accolade is as much for you guys as it is for my contribution.”
Under the Order of Australia Award, an officer of the General Division is nominated. Players who contribute their best in Australian cricket as a player at the national level or international level receives this award.

Other former Australian captains with Michael Clarke to receive this award are Ricky Ponting, Mark Taylor, Steve Waugh, Allan Border, and Bob Simpson.
Clarke has been one of Australia’s finest cricketers. He has played a total of 115 Test matches in Australia, in which he captained the team in 47. Clarke is the sixth-most captain to captain Australia in Test matches.
As a batsman, Clarke is also Australia’s fourth-highest scorer with 8643 runs in Test cricket. It was under Clarke’s captaincy that Australia beat England 5–0 in the Ashes 2013–14. Apart from this, Australia also won the 2015 World Cup title under his captaincy.
