In the inaugural match of IPL 2020, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated defending champion Mumbai Indians (MI) by 5 wickets.
This is Mumbai Indians’ sixth consecutive defeat on UAE soil. The record of Mumbai Indians in the UAE has been very poor. When half of the IPL was played in UAE in 2014, the team of Mumbai Indians played 5 matches here and had to face defeat in all their matches.
Ambati Rayudu’s brilliant inning and his century partnership with Faf Du Plessis helped the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to beat defending champions Mumbai Indians by 5 wickets on Saturday.
Rayudu scored 71 runs off 48 balls with the help of six fours and three sixes and added 115 runs for the third wicket with Faf Du Plessis (58 not out off 44 balls). In the final moments, Sam Curren scored 18 runs with the help of two sixes. Chennai scored 166 runs for five wickets in 19.2 overs. Batting first after losing the toss, Mumbai Indians scored 162 runs in 9 overs losing 9 wickets.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had lost the last four matches to Mumbai Indians (MI), but this time it was successful in beating their arch-rivals. Chennai had a very poor start and lost the wickets of both openers Shane Watson (4) and Murali Vijay (one) in the first two overs.
Ravindra Jadeja (10) also failed to do anything special, but Kuren (18 off six balls) made Chennai work easy by hitting sixes. Du Plessis completed his 13th half-century in the IPL and then hit a winning four.
The Mumbai team looked in a position to score more than 180 runs at one time, but they scored only 41 runs in the last six overs and lost six wickets in the meantime. Saurabh Tiwari scored 42 runs from his side. For this, he played 31 balls and hit three fours and a six. For Chennai, Nagidi took three, while Deepak Chahar and Ravindra Jadeja took two wickets each.
The pitch was slow and the Chennai bowlers also made loose balls in between. Mumbai openers Rohit and Quinton de Kock (33 off 20 balls, five fours) took the score to 45 runs for four overs, but within four balls both of them returned to the pavilion.
After this, there was a great view of the excellent fielding of Du Plessis. He got Jadeja two wickets in an over, converting both Tiwari and Hardik for sixes in a beautifully catches on the boundary line. You can watch both the catches here.

The death overs were pitted by Krunal Pandya (three) and Kieron Pollard (18), but Nagidi did not let Mumbai do much by sending them pavilions in consecutive overs.
Mumbai Indians have their next match against KKR on 23rd September while Chennai Super Kings will meet Rajasthan Royals on 22nd September at Sharjah.
