Ben Stokes becomes 6th player with 4000 runs and 150 wickets in Test

In the first Test match played at Southampton’s Ageas Bowl between England and West Indies, the host team’s acting captain Ben Stokes has achieved a great record. On the third day of the first Test, Ben Stokes showed Alzarri Joseph the path of the pavilion for 18 runs and completed 150 wickets in Test cricket.

With this, Ben Stokes became the second England all-rounder and the world’s sixth all-rounder with more than 4000 runs and 150 wickets in Test cricket. Stokes has achieved this feat in his 64th Test match.

Prior to Stokes, Gary Sobers of West Indies, Jacques Kallis of South Africa, Ian Botham of England, Kapil Dev of India, and Daniel Vettori of New Zealand have done in Test cricket.

However, Gary Sobers from the West Indies is the fastest all-rounder to complete a double for scoring more than 4000 runs and taking more than 150 wickets in Test cricket. He achieved this feat in his 63rd Test match only.

Captain dismissing captain in Test

Apart from this stupendous achievement of Ben Stokes, there was another spectacular event on the third day in the match. In the first innings of England, West Indies captain Jason Holder dismissed Ben Stokes. Holder showed Stokes the way to the pavilion on a personal score of 43.

After this, when the West Indies batting came, Ben Stokes dismissed Jason Holder. With this, Captain Stokes retaliated by dismissing Captain Holder. This is the 12th pair of captains in the history of Test cricket to dismiss each other in a single match.

Not only this, but this incident was also seen for the second time in England’s Test cricket history. Earlier in the 1996 Test played in Leeds, former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram and former England captain Mike Atherton made each other their victims.
