Suresh Raina, who has been out of Team India for 2 years, said that those Indian cricketers should get approval to play in foreign T20 leagues who are not in contract with BCCI. He said this on live chat on Instagram with fellow player Irfan Pathan on Sunday.

Raina said that playing in foreign T20 leagues would be good for those aged players who are trying to make a comeback to international cricket. I hope that the BCCI, together with the franchise and the International Cricket Council, can decide that Indian players who are not contracted with the board can play in T20 leagues like Big Bash.

Raina said that there is no international level competition in domestic cricket. If in the year we get a chance to play three months of quality cricket. Then why not the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) or Australia’s Big Bash League. With this, we will always be ready for international cricket.

BCCI officials

On this as per reports from IANS, an official from BCCI has responded and said

“One usually finds these views emanating from those who can see the wall of retirement approaching and it’s only natural. That’s their view. It’s the luxury of having the freedom of a tunnel vision with a view to further their own interests and that’s absolutely fine.

“From the point of view of the board and the interests of Indian cricket, the intent is to ensure a system where the non-contracted players are able to command good value at the IPL auction. Exclusivity is the key,” the official said.

Indian cricketers are not allowed to play in foreign leagues

Barring the IPL, the BCCI has not approved any active Indian player to play in the franchise league. However, some players are definitely playing in foreign cricket leagues after retirement. In this, Virender Sehwag has played for T-10, Yuvraj Singh Global T20 League for Canada.

Last year, Harbhajan Singh also signed for England’s ‘The Hundred’ (100-ball match). But withdrew from it to play in the IPL.
