Later on, he was appointed as a captain which enhanced his game totally and he has been phenomenal as a captain of Australia with great numbers. But one incident of ball-tampering took off the spotlight from this great cricketer against South Africa in 2018.

David Warner, Steve Smith, and Cameron Bancroft were found culprits as cricket Australia imposed the ban on three of them. After serving the ban for 12-months Steve Smith and David Warner made a great comeback in the Ashes 2019. But still cricket Australia looked not to move on from the incident to give the captaincy to Steve Smith.

The former England captain Michael Vaughan said Australia should give the captaincy to Steve Smith in ODI and Test Cricket.  Michael Vaughan believes it’s time to move on from that incident. With this, an opportunity should be given to Steve Smith again to let him prove his captaincy role.

I think they are overthinking it – they are looking at what happened a few years ago – and thinking if everyone has moved on. Of course, everyone has moved on from the ball-tampering incident – we have all forgotten it. The game moves on really fast. If there is an opportunity arises in ODIs or Tests, then Steve Smith definitely be Australia captain,” Michael Vaughan told Cricbuzz

Steve Smith is more dangerous as captain- Michael Vaughan

Steve Smith: CA

Michael Vaughan believes that Steve Smith is more dangerous batsman as a captain. For this, his numbers as a captain back his case. The current Australian team is completely wasting talent like Steve Smith by not giving captain role to him.

“Keeping him (Steve Smith) out due to the Cape Town situation which happened many, many years ago – I don’t understand that. You only need to see what he did with the bat when he was the captain and he was firing on all cylinders,” Michael Vaughan said.

“He is not an individual whose captaincy affects his batting. It is just about figuring out who is the better leader in the group, who is the better tactician, who could help Australia with a tactical change in the middle. I think Steve Smith probably would,” he further added

Author’s take

Into the 30s Steve Smith, Australia should not wait or try out random options for the captain role. It is better if Steve Smith will captain India in the test series so players get used to playing under Steve Smith’s captaincy before the major ICC Tournament like the 2023 world cup.

The way of writing a little bit has pulled me even in the hope of doing something different, among those great writers. I always feel great when I am making this possible with my wits. I am not a professional writer. I am a cricket aficionado and I am fortunate enough that I was born in an era of some of the best modern-day greats like Dale Steyn, Shane Bond and my all-time favourite Brett Lee.
