After Australia, Afghanistan cricket will cut salary of staff

After Australia due to coronavirus, now Afghanistan Cricket Board is also facing a financial crisis. So the Afghanistan cricket board will also cut the salary of its coaching staff by 25%. According to the board, if Zimbabwe does not have a tour of Afghanistan in June, the board may have to cut pay by 50%. Currently, the contract players have been paid 3 months salary.

Due to Corona, sports activities have been closed all over the world for 2 months. This condition can last until August. The head coach of Afghanistan is Lance Klusener, Batting Coach, HD Ackerman, and assistant coach Nawroz Mangal are going to suffer the most from the board’s decision after the decision of Afghanistan Cricket board to cut the salary of staff.

The team is also scheduled to play a 5 T20 home series from Zimbabwe in June. Currently, ACB has contracts with 32 senior players and 55 domestic players. Their salary will also be deducted if the Zimbabwe series is cancelled.

Lutfullah Stanikzai the CEO of Afghanistan cricket has said that they have been impacted more due to COVID 19 crises. He said,

“This is part of our cost-saving strategy as we have been also impacted by the COVID-19 crisis,”

He further added –

“We have decided to cut 25% (of the salary for the coaches) for May, 50% for June if we are not able to resume international cricket. We will try and keep them for as long as our financial situation allows,”

Afghanistan is still treated as an Associate member

Lutfullah Stanikzai said that Afghanistan has been a permanent member of the ICC since 2017. We thought we would get more grants. People’s expectations have also increased after becoming a permanent member.

But in spite of that, Afghanistan is receiving grants as an associate member. He said that we have also written to the ICC to grant, but no positive response has come from his side.
