In the last 12 seasons of the Indian Premier League, many bowlers have shown their strength. Although the conditions are favorable for the batsmen but the bowlers also leave their impact in the Indian Premier League. 5) Ishant Sharma – 5/12 vs Kochi Tuskers Kerala, 2011

Indian pace bowler Ishant Sharma is now an important part of the Indian Test team. He has consistently performed well in the last few years and now he is seen as a senior in the team. He was not picked by any team for some time in the IPL but now he has also returned.

On 27 April 2011, he troubled the opposition team with his bowling length and speed. He took five wickets for 12 runs in 3 overs. The Deccan Chargers’ team was defending a score of just 130 and the Tuskers were dismissed for just 74 runs.

Ishant took the wickets of Mahela Jayawardene, Parthiv Patel, Gomez, Brad Hodge, and Kedar Jadhav. Ishant did not allow four of the five batsmen to open the account.


4) Anil Kumble – 5/5 vs Rajasthan Royals, 2009

Indian legendary bowler Anil Kumble also showed in the late stages of his career that his edge has not diminished. He holds the record for the best performance in an IPL by an Indian bowler.

Kumble’s experience saw Rajasthan Royals’ team falter. Anil Kumble in  3.1 overs and took five wickets for just five runs. The Royal Challengers team was able to score just 134 runs and Kumble also made this target difficult for the Royals.

He took the wickets of Yusuf Pathan, Ravindra Jadeja, Shane Warne, Munaf Patel, and Kamran Khan and the Rajasthan Royals were all out for just 58. Although Rahul Dravid was named Man of the Match for his 66 runs.

3) Adam Zampa – 6/19 vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, 2016

Spinners have an important role in the IPL. They sometimes help to halt the pace of the game. On 10 May 2016, Australia’s leg-spinner Zampa showed his magic against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

He took the wickets of Kane Williamson, Yuvraj Singh, Moises Henriques, Deepak Hooda, Naman Ojha, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Zampa did not allow the middle order pf Sunrisers Hyderabad to play openly and the team was able to score 137 runs for 8 wickets.

Hyderabad bowlers also bowled tightly and the Supergiants lost the match by just four runs. Despite the defeat of the Supergiants, Adam Zampa’s performance became part of the record book.


2) Sohail Tanvir – 6/14 vs Chennai Super Kings, 2008

Pakistani players are no longer visible in the Indian Premier League but this was not the case in the first year in 2008. Pakistan’s left-arm fast bowler Sohail Tanvir has done wonders this season. He took six wickets for just 14 runs against Chennai Super Kings which remained the best IPL bowling performance for a long time.

Sohail Tanvir took the wickets of Parthiv Patel, Stephen Fleming, Vidyut Sivaramakrishnan, Albie Morkel, Muttiah Muralitharan, and Makhaya Ntini. In this match held on 4 May 2008, the visiting team was reduced to 109 runs. Rajasthan won the match by 8 wickets with 34 balls left.


1) Alzarri Joseph – 6/12 vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, 2019

The Caribbean player Alzarri Joseph made a brilliant start to his IPL journey. He broke the 12-season record of the IPL on 6 April 2019. He also created the record of best bowling figures in IPL debut.

The amazing thing is that this was his first IPL match. Playing for Mumbai Indians, he took six wickets for 12 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Sunrisers chasing 137 runs could not stand up to Joseph’s storm.

The 23-year-old young fast-bowler knocked down Sunrisers Hyderabad at their home ground. His bowling spell was 3.4–1–12–6, during which he took the wickets of David Warner, Vijay Shankar, Deepak Hooda, Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Siddharth Kaul. Hyderabad was all out for 96 in 17.4 overs. Mumbai won the match by 41 runs.
