Why RCB rejected MS Dhoni in IPL 2008 Auction

Charu Sharma talking to ESPN Cricinfo reveals RCB was in fear if MS Dhoni fails to perform. He quoted,

“Imagine the backlash in Chennai (CSK picked MSD for $1.5 million) if MS Dhoni fails”

With this, he also added,

“We knew early, the way the bid was going that it was not on for us. This is not a one-man show, it’s a team game. Suppose he gets out for a duck in a couple of matches, supposes he fails. Fans in Chennai are going to turn around as ask ‘Was he really worth so much’?

In this way, the things said by RCB can be said that he was not in favor of buying Dhoni at a higher price because he believed that if he could not play, his money would be wasted.

However, apart from th is, Dhoni won three titles to CSK in IPL and he is the most successful captain from this league, while RCB is still craving for a title. Their captain Virat Kohli has also failed to win the team title in this league for the past several years.
