5 Players who may be playing their last ever IPL season in 2020

The 2020 IPL season is just around the corner as the fans of all the countries are excited for yet another edition of cricket extravaganza. The IPL is one of the most-watched leagues on the planet across all sports because this is the only tournament where Indian players play in the same team with foreign players. Over the years, the IPL has produced some interesting stories. Be it the rise of the future stars or the decline of the big names, IPL has seen it all. However, there have been a few big names who have been playing in IPL for long and they might call it a day on their IPL career in 2020. Here are the 5 players who may be playing their last ever season in 2020 5) Robin Uthappa The right-handed batsman from Karnataka, Robin Uthappa’s career seems to be heading nowhere. After a dismal season with Kolkata Knight Riders last year, the KKR franchise released him from their squad. This year Uthappa will play for Rajasthan Royals and with Steve Smith present in the side, it is tough to imagine Uthappa playing his natural game. Both Smith and Robin have the same type of gameplay. They pace the innings well and so, there is no need of two players of the same type in the T20 format. In case Robin Uthappa does not shine in the first few matches, his career will end in 2020. 4) Imran Tahir Chennai Super Kings is lucky enough to have a leg-spinner like Imran Tahir in their ranks. The South African player has risen in the past few years and one can say that he is playing at his best right now. His age has not deterred him from running fast in his celebrations and the Whistle Podu fans would hope that they see more and more celebrations from Tahir this year also. Last season, Tahir had won the Purple Cap award but he could help CSK win the IPL championship. In 2020, the Pakistan-born leggie will look to end his career on a high with a resounding performance for Chennai. 3) Harbhajan Singh Another spinner from Chennai Super Kings to feature on this list is the right-arm off-spinner of India, Harbhajan Singh. He has been away from international cricket for a while but he has not announced retirement. All the heroes of the 2011 World Cup team have bid adieu to the cricket field but Harbhajan is one of the few players active right now. He will play for CSK in IPL 2020 as he was retained by the team. The off-spinner has already started his career in the field of commentary so, CSK may keep him on the bench every now and then. They already have Piyush Chawla, Mitchell Santner and Imran Tahir in their team so, Harbhajan will have a sad end to his career. 2) Lasith Malinga Lasith Malinga has been playing for the same IPL franchise since day 1 of his career. He has not played for any other team except Mumbai Indians which showcases his immense IPL experience. A veteran in his own rights, Malinga is known for his toe-crushing Yorkers and slower deliveries. Even at this age, he is the best bowler present in the international team of Sri Lanka. Having announced his retirement from cricket after T20 World Cup in Australia, it is likely that Malinga will end his career in the IPL also this year. This might be the last time we see Malinga and Jasprit Bumrah play for the same IPL team. So, the fans should not miss IPL 2020 at all, especially Mumbai fans. 1) Dale Steyn The most heartbreaking name present on this list is that of Dale Steyn. The South African speedster is no longer the Dale Steyn on 2008-10 but he still has a lot of firepowers left in him. He has already retired from Test cricket and looking at the rise of the young South African fast bowlers, it is very much possible that Steyn soon quits cricket. He had an uneventful debut in Big Bash League recently for Melbourne Stars. His replacement, Haris Rauf played much better than him hence, the right-arm fast bowler will be under huge pressure to perform in the IPL 2020. If he is released by RCB once again after this year, then his career is definitely coming to a close.
