Former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara said on Saturday that Indian captain Virat Kohli has a chance to reach the equivalent of cricket great Sir Don Bradman.
Kumar Sangakkara is currently president of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC). He also praised Virat Kohli’s fitness and commitment and dedication to the game.
Kumar Sangakkara said on the show ‘The RK’,
“Virat is phenomenally fit. I know, and I have seen and heard of his amazing commitment and dedication to being the best that he can be, both on and off the field—physically, mentally and skillwise.”
Kumar Sangakkara believes that the Indian captain Virat Kohli has the biggest opportunity to become like Sir Don Bradman. He said,
“He has the opportunity to become maybe the greatest after the Don,
Kumar Sangakkara also added,
“He’s a rare breed among cricketers. Inspiration wise, one of the best I’ve ever watched in my life, across every format. What I like the most about Virat is his passion, his personality and the fact that he is not scared to show his emotions visible on the field – whether he’s captaining the side or he’s just fighting a line battle, trying to get India to win. He’s an old-fashioned cricketer. Not too many high-fancy shots, but deadly effective.”
In terms of statistics, while Kohli has 7240 runs in Tests while Don Bradman has scored 6996 Test runs with an average of 99.94. Virat Kohli continues to climb the ladder of success in the limited over format. Virat Kohli is the sixth highest run-scorer in ODI cricket.
