Indian team captain Virat Kohli has played many matches in his career so far. Not only this, but he is also known as Chase Master in world cricket. Speaking to Ravichandran Ashwin on Instagram live Virat Kohli has chosen an innings that changed his life from all the innings he has played so far.
Virat Kohli while speaking on Instagram with Ravichandran Ashwin said that the 183-run innings against Pakistan had brought a change in his career. He played this impressive inning of 183 runs against Pakistan in Asia Cup 2012.
Pakistan had scored 329 runs in that match at the loss of six wickets and India chased down this target in just 47.5 overs. In this match, Virat Kohli scored 183 runs and won the match for India single-handedly. Virat Kohli admitted that his innings proved to be a game-changer for him.
Virat Kohli told Ashwin that it was challenging because of the bowling line up of Pakistan, he said,
“The Pakistan bowling attack was quite potent. They were challenging because of the variation they had- Shahid Afridi, Umar Gul, Saeed Ajmal, Aziz Cheema, Wahab Riaz, Mohd Hafeez. Ajmal was particularly dangerous as he was it his peak back then.”
The Indian captain Virat Kohli added,
“It was quite a strong attack and in Bangladesh, the pitches are dry early on and then the dew settles in as the sunsets. So for the first 20 overs, it was in their favour. But I was happy batting next to Sachin,( which incidentally was the master blasters last ODI),” Kohli reminded before adding, “The chase was tough and Ajmal was indeed at his peak.”
Kohli said that this innings gave him confidence that he can bat in front of any level of the bowling attack.
“It naturally happened because I was constantly boosting myself up to want those situations to happen. I think that turned out to be a game-changer for me.”
The right-handed batsman said, I fondly remember that chase it was really tough, Rohit (Sharma) played brilliantly and at the end MS (Dhoni) and (Suresh) Raina finished with three overs to spare or something chasing 330 which was quite memorable.
Kohli shared a 133-run partnership for the second wicket with Sachin and a 172-run partnership with Rohit. Rohit scored 68 off 83 balls in that match.
