Teams Playing All Editions of the ICC Champions Trophy (1998–2025)

The ICC Champions Trophy is one of international cricket’s premier events, first held in 1998. The tournament has seen some of the greatest nations in cricket compete in all its events, with teams changing over the years. But only 6 following teams have been part of each edition of the Champions Trophy from 1998 to 2017. These teams will also participate in the 2025 edition, adding to their long-standing Champions Trophy legacies.

1. Australia

The Australian team has been reckoned with within the world cricket scene, and their performance in the Champions Trophy highlights Australia’s stability, having played 24 matches from 1998 to 2017, with 12 wins and 8 losses. The Australian team will be looking to keep its legacy alive in the 2025 Champions Trophy. Australia has won the ICC Champions Trophy twice, in 2006 and 2009, showcasing their dominance in global cricket.

2. England

Playing 25 matches from 1998 to 2017, with 14 wins and 11 losses, England has been a competitive participant in the Champions Trophy. Their hosting of the tournament in 2017 was one of the memorable moments. England will look forward to capitalizing on their recent successes in global tournaments as they take on the 2025 edition with renewed optimism. England has yet to win the Champions Trophy, however, they reached the final in 2004 and 2013, finishing as runners-up in both editions.

3. India

With a solid record in the Champions Trophy, India has played 29 matches, securing 18 wins and 8 losses. Being the champions in 2013, they are one of the most successful teams in the history of the tournament. With their rich cricketing culture and star players, India remains one of the favorites for the 2025 edition. India won the ICC Champions Trophy twice, in 2002 (shared with Sri Lanka) and 2013, proving their cricketing prowess. They also finished as runners-up in 2000, losing to the powerful team from New Zealand.

4. New Zealand

The Champions Trophy has seen New Zealand as a consistent performer, with 24 matches played between 1998 and 2017, securing 12 wins and 10 losses. The Black Caps, known for resilience and balance in their team, would enter the 2025 edition as a determined contender, aiming at their maiden ICC Champions Trophy title. New Zealand reached the Champions Trophy final in 2009, but they finished as runners-up after losing to the host nation, England. Despite their consistent performances, they’ve never been able to win the tournament.

5. Pakistan

Unpredictable but thrilling cricket has been a hallmark for Pakistan, having played 23 matches, with 11 wins and 12 losses. The only high point has been the triumph over India in 2017. They are going to come out and bring their dynamic style and passionate approach to challenge for the title again in the 2025 edition. Pakistan claimed their first and only Champions Trophy title in 2017, defeating India in the final. Their impressive performance came after years of near misses in international tournaments.

6. South Africa

A consistent team in the Champions Trophy, South Africa has played 24 matches from 1998 to 2017, securing 12 wins and 11 losses. Though they have been unlucky in previous editions, they are going to go all out in 2025 to finally grab the elusive title with their team. South Africa reached the final in 1998 and ended winning up the first-ever edition of the ICC Champions Trophy. Despite their strong performances over the years, they’ve fallen short of reaching the finals of the ICC Champions Trophy.


Only these six teams have played in all Editions of the ICC Champions Trophy from 1998 to 2017, and will once again compete in 2025.
