Bairstow was dropped from the New Zealand tour last year. Jonny Bairstow was given the chance as a batsman in a Test against South Africa. But he was able to score just nine runs in the first test of the 4 match series and after that, he was ruled out of the remaining matches of the series.

There is still competition for the wicketkeeper in the England Test team. Currently, Jos Buttler is given priority in the team. 3 match Test series will be played between England and West Indies in next month.

According to ESPNcricinfo, he said,

“Over a period of time, I’ve been really happy with my keeping. That was the part of my game which, at the start of my career, people questioned. But people have stopped speaking about it over the last couple of years.”

“My stats are very good. So there’s no reason why that isn’t an area I want to be coming back into. My stats were very good and I didn’t feel like I had done anything wrong with my keeping. I was getting complimented highly by people on that,” he said.

Bairstow has scored only one century in the last 18 Tests. In the last 14 Test matches since August 2018, he has scored at an average of only 19.15.

“I’m pleased with the way my batting has been going. I’ve been facing the dogstick and I’ve had a few sessions with the bowling machine. It’s been good to groove my technique,” he said
