Last year, Team India was eliminated from the ICC World Cup 2019 after losing in the semi-finals to New Zealand. For which former all-rounder Irfan Pathan blamed the team’s uncertain middle order. Now Irfan Pathan has said that India has all the resources but needs to plan better in big ICC tournaments.
India last won the ICC tournament in 2013. At that time Team India won the Champions Trophy title under the leadership of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Since then India has not been successful in winning any ICC tournament.
Irfan Pathan who was in the team the 2007 T20 World Cup, said in the Star Sports show ‘Cricket Connected’,
“We were struggling with having a proper eleven. I think we need to make sure that we have better planning going into the ICC trophies, going into the World Cup. If we have better planning, we have all the resources to be a champion,”
Irfan Pathan said that prior to the World Cup last year, the Indian team was finding it very difficult to choose the right players in the playing eleven, due to which the team was eliminated from the World Cup after losing to New Zealand in the semi-finals. He said,
“If you look at the recent 2019 tournament, it was bad planning, I think the team can do better planning. Look, we have resources, we have players, we have fitness, we have everything to be a world champion. The only thing lacking is that we did not have a No.4 batsman just before the World Cup as well,”
Indian haven’t won any ICC trophy after winning the 2013 Champions Trophy. Team India had lost in semi-finals 3 times, first in ODI World Cup 2015 then T20 World Cup 2016 and last year in World Cup 2019. In 2017 Champions Trophy India lost in the finals against Pakistan.
