Team India, under the leadership of Indian captain Virat Kohli, is performing quite well. Two years ago, under the captaincy of Kohli, Team India managed to beat Australia in the Test series for the first time at their home.
At the same time, in the ODIs and T20s, Team India is giving good results under the captaincy of Kohli. But their record in the ICC tournament has not been good. Team India is yet to win an ICC tournament under the captaincy of Virat Kohli, due to which he has been criticized.
Under the captaincy of Virat Kohli, India have played the 2017 Champions Trophy and the 2019 World Cup. But both times team got eliminated in the knockout stage. Because of this, many cricket experts had questioned Kohli’s captaincy.

But now 1983 World Cup-winning team captain Kapil Dev has come in support of Kohli. Kapil Dev says that Team India is doing very well under Kohli’s captaincy and winning the World Cup is not all.
Kapil said in an interview to ANI,
“There is no pressure on the current Indian team. In my opinion, they are doing well, it’s not like that you need to win a World Cup to be called a good team. Virat Kohli is doing well, Sourav Ganguly did well, how can we forget Sunil Gavaskar? He was a great captain too. Lifting the cup is not everything, how you shape up the team matters.”
Remarkably, yesterday was the 37th anniversary of the 1983 World Cup victory. On this day in 1983, Team India defeated the West Indies in the final match and won the World Cup for the first time. India beat the West Indies by 43 runs in that match.
After that World Cup victory, India had to wait a long 28 years to win the next World Cup. India won the World Cup for the second time in 2011 under the leadership of MS Dhoni.
With the next World Cup now to be played on Indian soil in 2023, we can expect Kohli & Co. to repeat history once again.
